Huggin Doug

On Saturday Bart & I found out that Doug's funeral would be on Tuesday. We checked plane tickets...which were WAY too much...so we decided we'd leave right then and drive to California for the funeral.

It was nice spending a few days with my family, and I am SOOOOO grateful we went to the funeral. I think I really just needed to be there. It was a wonderful service. His granddaughter shared some memories of her grandfather that I swear I felt were my own. She had everyone laughing and crying. She just portrayed Doug in the exact light that I saw him. It was wonderful! I wish I could somehow get a copy of what she said. It was so wonderful.

Judy also looked so strong! I was so worried about her, it was very comforting to see her there. I know that she will have many hard times ahead, but I know that the Lord is comforting her and I am grateful for that.

One of Doug's granddaughters has also set up a website where you can share your memories of Doug in the comments section and she will post them. For all of you who know him and weren't able to make it to the funeral, the website is
huggindoug.blogspot.com. His death really did leave a void in our lives. Going back to La Crescenta is just not going to be the same without one of his bear hugs or smoochin mints, but I'm glad that she made this place for us to share our memories.

I'm so glad you went, too. Good to get that kind of closure. Plus, I'm sorta jealous of the spontaneous trip to California. How fun!
