My New Best Friend

For the first time in months, I am no longer feeling sick. I have a new best friend:

May our friendship be long lived....at least until my morning sickness goes away on its own.

Bless Cubby

I was saying prayers with Addison while I was putting her to bed yesterday. Sometimes I say the prayer, and sometimes I help her say it. I had decided to just say it that night, but as I started praying, she copied everything I said, so I decided to let her continue. This is how the rest of the prayer went.

Mom: Bless Daddy
Addison: Bless Daddy
Mom: Bless Eric
Addison: Bless Eric...and Amy.
(this is the first time she's ever initiated anything in a prayer, so I decide to run with it.)
Mom: And Amy.
Addison: Bless Grandma
Mom: Bless Grandma
Addison: Bless Papa
Mom: Bless Papa
Addison: Bless Cubby
(Cubby is my parent's dog)
Mom: Bless Cubby
Addison: (Long Pause...I decided to start prompting again)
Mom: Bless Mommy
Addison: Um....Bless Cubby
Mom: Bless the baby
Addison: Bless Cubby
Mom: Help Addison Sleep through the night
Addison: Bless Cubby
Mom: In the name of Jesus Christ...
Addison: Amen!

We told Addison we were going to visit my parents next week, and ever since then she's been SOOOO excited to see Grandma and Papa and Cubby....and Cubby...and Cubby. And Cubby.

My girl knows WAY too much for her age.

So yesterday Addison got into the drawer where I keep all my bras. She grabbed a bra and held it up to her chest, and said, "Mom! I have boobs." Oh dear. I knew I shouldn't have told her to stop poking my boobs the other day.

Nausea and Turkey

So I have decided I will never again be in the first trimester during Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I LOVE to cook! So I LOVE trying out recipes at Thanksgiving.

This year, I can barely choke down cold cereal, let alone handle all the used-to-be-wonderful smells of the holiday. Our family has been lucky if we have three actual meals a week. I have purposely tried not to think about all the food I love because I'm worried if I think about something I'll suddenly be running for the toilette, and there will be no chance of me being able to choke it down on the blessed Turkey day.

I do have a secrete weapon in my back pocket though: Zophran. This, from what I hear, is an anti-nausea medication often given to Chemo patients. The stuff that my doctor prescribed for me does absolutely nothing, so he gave me a prescription for Zophran. The down side: my insurance won't pay for it...stupid insurance...oh well, I can have a baby for $100, so I really shouldn't complain. This little pill is a little dose of heaven (according to several friends). Unfortunately, a 10 day supply costs like $75!!! This price dashes any hopes I may have had of not being nauseous for the rest of the holiday season, but we have decided we will get one dose in hopes of a semi-decent Turkey day (not to mention a semi-decent plane ride to and from California).

I plan on starting it next Sunday...the countdown is on!!!

Okay it's Official

I'm pregnant. And HORRIBLY morning sick...I HATE the first trimester.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Ooh!!! MY turn My turn! Like my friend Tabitha, I too cannot get enough of Christmas, even if Thanksgiving hasn't come yet (which is another holiday I am very much looking forward to).

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? - Uhh...Both. There are some really cool gift bags out there, and they look so cute with cool tissue paper...something Bart argues is useless and overpriced, but I beg to differ...at least about the useless part. :o) I also LOVE decorating packages with pretty paper and bows and all manner of beautifulness.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Uhhhh...Both. Te hehe, do I really have to decide. In all honesty, my favorite is a real tree that also has a function that when you clap all the pine needles magically disappear. Ahhh, that would be wonderful. We did get an artificial tree for free a few years ago and have been using it, but every year we long for the real clap-on variety.

4. When do you take the tree down? If it's real, pretty soon after Christmas because the mess only gets worse...if it's fake...hopefully by valentines day. ;o)

5. Do you like egg nog? LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. My first semester of College I blame all the weight I gained on egg nog.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Um...I don't remember. I just loved being with my family opening presents on Christmas morning.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? About a bagilion! I think I get a new one every year...which reminds me, I should put that on my Christmas list. Yay! I have one thing on my list now.

8. Hardest person to buy for? My Husband. He would beg to differ. He would be perfectly happy with any of the video games he puts on his list every year, but I just can't bring myself to do it! I want to get him something brilliant that even he hasn't thought of...like sephiroth. Ah, why did I have to come up with a lizard the very first gift giving experience of our married life. I'll never be able to live up to that one again.

9. Easiest person to buy for? Addison, she's happy with everything.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail. Despite the fact that we have done email for the past two years. Hey! My husband's a teacher and we're poor. But I think we're going to do mail ones this year...assuming I can get on top of things. Which reminds me, we need everyone's mailing address, so can you please send me yours.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Ummm...I can't remember this either. Although the worst one I've given is probably a mug with a picture of Addison on it to Bart the Christmas after Addison was born. True, it was supposed to be from Addison, but it was my idea, and I remember even as I ordered it thinking, "Why am I doing this...Bart's going to hate it." He denies that he hates it, but I know the truth.
12 . Favorite Christmas movie? It's a Wonderful life. I LOVE watching this with my dad every Christmas. A Charley Brown Christmas is a close second.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? All year, but I get most of it done in December.

14 . Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? I tried to recycle a white elephant gift last year, but still wound up with it...long story.

15. Any Christmas traditions? Oh My gosh, There is no way I have enough time to write all of them. A few of my favorites: Reading (or at least attempting to read) Christmas stories every day in December, white elephant gifts on the night before Christmas...getting presents from Eve...Scully....the Pot Heads...Rudolph...etc. Watching It's a wonderful life, Charley Brown Christmas, Rudolph, Frosty, etc. Making candy...especially Grandma's mints.

16 . Clear lights or colored on the tree? Ah, here's that both answer again.

17. Favorite Christmas song? That would be like making me choose which child is my favorite...well, it would be like that if I had more than one child...like a million children. Although right now I would like to listen to Bare Naked Ladies' version of "We Three Kings." I think I'll go find it...okay back...I love this song.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? TRAVEL! Christmas is always better with tons of family, and we have to travel to see family, so TRAVEL!
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prance, Vixen, Coment, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph!
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Star

21 . Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas Pajamas/White elephant gifts on Christmas eve, and the rest of the presents on Christmas Morning.

22. Favorite thing for Christmas dinner? Um....brain overload...too many good foods...Can't decide...I LOVE CHRISTMAS!

Myself!

So the latest thing with Addison is "Myself!" She ALWAYS wants to do things "Myself!" A.K.A. by herself. Get up into her chair, get up and down from her car seat, put her coat away, and this morning it was getting dressed.

I was actually pretty excited because lately she's been telling me, "Jamies back on." Which means she doesn't want to get out of her pajamas before I take her to Robyn's, which means I have to pack a backpack of her clothes that Robyn can change her into.

So when she told me she wanted, "Clothes Myself" This morning I happily took her to her dresser to help pick out the clothes she could put on herself. She pointed to a drawer that had only blankets in it. I explained that there were no clothes in that drawer and tried to talk her into an outfit of my choosing. She assured me, "Blanket Clothes." I opened the drawer to show her there were only blankets in there. She pulled out a blanket, draped it over her shoulders and said, "Wear Blanket." I asked her, "You want to wear a blanket today?" "Yeah!" I looked out the window at the first snowfall, then back down at my baby wearing nothing but a diaper and a blanket-cape, and wondered if turning this into a learning moment would be considered child abuse.

I decided not to risk it and was finally able to convince her that she could wear real clothes and a blanket. Fortunately she was even willing to give up her blanket cape if she could put on her winter coat "myself!" Ah the joys of motherhood.

P.S. I do have pictures of Halloween...hopefully I will eventually be able to post them.
