Other November Activities

We did a lot of other things this November as well.

We watched Bart play soccer.
November Soccer

Okay, so really, "watched" might be stretching it a bit.
November Soccer 2
November Soccer 1
I was mostly watching this little one and her sister to make sure they didn't eat any of the little balls in the turf.
November Soccer 3
Not gonna lie, going to Bart's soccer games was a lot easier before we had kids.

We also raked leaves. Actually Bart used his leaf blower, so maybe raked isn't the right word. We blowed leaves?
November Leaves

Whatever it was, we got leaves out of our back yard and into the garbage, along with some other rubbish that was lying around.
November Leaves 2

We played in the yard.

We went on rainy autumn drives.
November Misc

Addison decided Angry Birds is pretty much the best game ever.
November iPod

Addison went to go to a dance workshop at Bart's school...
November Dancing
November Dancing 2

and learned to dance to the beat of her own drum. :)
November Dancing 3

Overall, we had a great month. Now on to December. :)

Your blog looks amazing and your photos are beautiful. I particularly liked the one where your daughter is lit up by the phone in her hand and everything else is dark around her.

Okay, that Addison Angry Birds picture is PHENOMENAL. I would copy you, if only I knew how. :)

Do you guys have a DLSR Janae? It's actually a lot easier than you would think. The key is turning up your iPod (or phone or whatever it is that is providing the lighting) up to the brightest it will go. Then you meter off the skin (just use your in camera meter and get close to her skin to get the reading) and adjust your camera settings accordingly. (With light skin, you want the meter to say you're over exposed a bit.)

For this picture, my camera settings were f2, ISO 1600, with a shutter speed of 1/25. Although, originally her face was a little over exposed (I brought the expsure down a bit in post processing), so I could have increased the shutter speed a little and been fine.

The trickiest part is the shutter speed. 1/25 is SUPER slow, especially if you're not using a tripod. You have to do two things to make sure your picture is sharp.

First of all, you have to brace yourself and make sure that your arms are really steady. I had my arms up against my chest, and I took my picture just after I had taken a breath and let it out (there's a natural pause between breaths, this is the best time to take a picture when you're using really slow shutter speeds.)

The second part is making sure your kid doesn't move. I took this picture when she had just beat a level and was waiting for the next level to load.

If you try it out, let me know if it works!
