So yesterday I baked some four dozen sugar cookies for the young women in our ward to decorate and then randomly leave on people's doorsteps.
Addison LOVES getting into our cookie cutter drawer, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to teach her that those cookie cutters are for more than just the taking out of and putting back into drawers.
For the first half an hour it was great. I was standing on one side of our island and she was standing on a chair on the other. She would pick out a cookie cutter, I would place it, and then she would help me push it down into the dough.
Well, after a while she got kind of bored and sat down on the chair. For those of you who haven't been to our house, our island is a piece of furniture that also acts as an open storage place for many pots, pans and bowls. Addison sat down and decided to use her feet to push one of the bowls further into the island. Unfortunately, on the other side of that bowl was my set of pottery barn bowls that got pushed off of the island. The bowls fell down and ALL OF THEM shattered!!!
I was soooooooo mad! those were my favorite bowls!!! One of them already had a crack in it and I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. I was SOOOOOOOOO mad! I said, "Addison! NO!" And then just bit my lip because I knew I would be yelling way more than I should if I said anything. She just sat silently on the chair staring at me with slight horror...she could tell I was really mad. I cleaned everything up and told Addison to stay in the chair until I got back, and went to throw away the pieces of my precious bowl in the outside trash bin.
When I got back, Addison was still in the exact position I left her on the chair. As soon as I walked into the room she looked down and quietly said, "Sorry mama." My heart just melted! I picked her up and gave her a big hug. It old her it was okay and that I knew she didn't mean to break it. That little girl really does have her mama wrapped around her finger!

Oh, sad!!! I'm sorry about your bowls - but props to you for being a good mom and keeping your temper reigned in. What a smarty Addison is!
Oh my gosh, I am SOOOO sorry!! I hate when things like that happen. You are so angry and you want to blame it on the kid, but you know they didn't mean to, and just don't understand. Exhale. Ugh. I can't believe how sweet she is - what a cutie to say sorry!
I know that feeling too well. We had one of those really nice gem stone globes that I got Rod for his birthday one year. About a month and a half or two months ago Reid was shaking the little table that we had it sitting on. Rod chased him off and about 5 seconds later there was a big CRASH and that was the end of the globe. Rod and I were both very upset and we were very quiet while we cleaned it up. I was fighting back the tears as I vacuumed up the pieces. It was the hardest thing to put the globe in the trash. There would have been no way to fix it.
That is so cute that Addison said sorry to you. :) She is such a cutie!!
Ok, maybe I am a little bit of a softy, but I almost cried at this story! I am sorry about the bowls - that is a real bummer.
Hi Becca. This is Ember, I finally got a chance to look up your blog. It is so cute. I love the pictures and have to say that your wedding pic on the cliff is the most beautiful wedding pic ever. Africa looked amazing, we are so jealous. Addison is so cute, sorry about the bowls.
